I interviewed Richard Attenborough a few years ago about a film he directed called Closing the Ring. He was a Sir and a Lord, and I wasn’t exactly sure how I should refer to him when he came in the room. I asked the publicist and she didn’t know either. It was decided that I should just come clean and ask him if he preferred Sir Richard or Lord Attenborough. When he came in I asked and he slapped my knee and said, “Call me Dickie!” He was a lovely man, a great filmmaker and a wonderful interview. RIP
