POP LIFE: JAKE CLEMONS ON MUSIC, LEGACY AND THE E STREET BAND!

“Pop Life” returns with another all new show on October 24, 2020, 8:30 pm on CTV NewsChannel, midnight on CTV. This week we meet Jake Clemons, a solo musician, singer and songwriter who understands legacy. Since 2012 he has been the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, after the death of the band’s original saxophonist, his uncle Clarence Clemons. We discuss performing with his famous uncle in church, having big shoes to fill and much more.

Then the “Pop Life” panel, Clemons, Canadian jazz vocalist and pianist Carol Welsman whose granddaughter was Frank Welsman, the founder and first conductor of the first Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Todd D. Snyder, author of a biography of Muhammad Ali’s cornerman, Drew “Bundini” Brown, who coined the phrase “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” talk about the role legacy plays in our lives.

Richard Crouse is the host of the CTV talk show Pop Life, the regular film critic for the 24 hour news source CTV’s News Channel and CP24. His syndicated Saturday afternoon radio show, The Richard Crouse Show, originates on News Talk 1010 in Toronto. He is also the author of nine books on pop culture history.

He was the host of Reel to Real, Canada’s longest running television show about movies, from 1998 to 2008 and is a frequent guest on many national Canadian radio and television shows.

Today we talked about the return of his show ‘Pop Life’ to the TV airwaves, how the entertainment business is pivoting in midst of the current health pandemic, what got him into this business of show, and what’s he’s a fan of…that you might not expect…

POP LIFE: SEASON SEVEN KICKS OFF WITH JOURNALIST JUSTIN LING!

“Pop Life” returns with all new shows on October 3, 2020, 8:30 pm on CTV NewsChannel, midnight on CTV. The first  show of season seven is an in-depth look at the popularity of true crime stories. We begin with an interview with journalist Justin Ling, author of “Missing from the Village: The Story of Serial Killer Bruce McArthur, the Search for Justice, and the System That Failed Toronto’s Queer Community” which documents the tragic and resonant story of the disappearance of eight men–the victims of serial killer Bruce McArthur–from Toronto’s queer community. Then the “Pop Life” panel, journalist Kevin Donovan author of “Billionaire Murders,” Kristi Lee, host of CDN true crime podcast “Canadian True Crime” and Michael Arntfield, a former detective/ writer, producer, and consultant for the true crime series “To Catch a Killer.”

On the August 15, 2020 episode of “Pop Life” singer-songwriter, author, political activist and occasional actor Bob Geldof stops by the Pop Life bar. He became famous as the lead singer of the Irish rock band the Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and became a legend when he and Midge Ure founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia and went on to organize the charity super-concert Live Aid… He is an accomplished solo artist whose charitable work continues to this day. We talk about the Boomtown Rats, “Citizens of Boomtown,” their first album in 36 years, the new single, “Trash Glam Baby” and much more.
