BREAKING AND ENTERING

600full-breaking-and-entering-screenshot_articleJude Law (reunited with director Anthony Minghella for a third time) plays a world-weary architect who reevaluates his life following a series of break-ins at his office. Determined to recover his stolen laptop, which contains his “whole life,” he embarks on an unorthodox investigation that leads to an affair with the mother of a suspect. Breaking and Entering is a multi-layered story about immigration in the new England, the fragility of relationships and how a mother’s love trumps all. It’s a bit too ambitious, casting its net too wide to fully explore all of these topics, but steady direction from Minghella and top-flight performances from co-stars Ray Winstone and Juliette Binoche save the day.
