Determined to recover his stolen laptop, which contains his “whole life,” he embarks on an unorthodox investigation that leads to an affair with the mother of a suspect. Breaking and Entering is a multi-layered story about immigration in the new England, the fragility of relationships and how a mother’s love trumps all. It’s a bit too ambitious, casting its net too wide to fully explore all of these topics, but steady direction from Minghella and top-flight performances from co-stars Ray Winstone and Juliette Binoche save the day.
