NEWSTALK 1010: IS 2025 THE YEAR OF THE CELEBRITY UN-CANCELLING?
I join NewsTalk 1010’s Jim Richards to discuss if 2025 is the year of the “un-cancelling.”
“About a year after Louis CK was cancelled after admitting to sexual misconduct, I was at a late show at the Comedy Cellar in New York’s West Village. It’s a small, extremely intimate space that tightly packs about 300 people in per show. Louis CK arrived, unannounced and made his first appearance since being cancelled. Of the three hundred people in the room, two people left, the rest stayed, either out of curiosity or because they were fans, but either way, I thought as he took the stage, “I guess cancellation isn’t forever.” And I don’t believe it is. I think it became exhausting trying to keep up with the Cancelled Celebrity of the Week and people stopped paying attention. R egular folks got tired of being on top of who we were supposed to like, and who we’re not supposed to like…. Just ask James Gunn, Sarah Silverman, Nick Cannon, Kevin Hart, Casey Affleck and Mel Gibson, all of whom were cancelled at one time or another, and all of whom are still working. Heck, Louis CK even won a Grammy Award for best comedy album after his cancellation.”
