When asked about how being in space made him feel connected to earth he said: “The sunrises and sunsets, they were more like watching a painting be created in front of you. What really tied you to home was seeing all seven and a half billion people every day. Because, the world turns underneath you. So, you see, everybody you look down and go, ‘Oh look there’s Karachi. Nine 9 million people. Holy cow,’ and 10 minutes later you’re coming over Singapore and you wait 40 minutes and now you’re over San Francisco. The whole world and everybody in it, all of our what we think are so wildly different cultures… you know we pretend we’re so radically different from each other. When you see the whole thing in 90 minutes you realize this is one little shared planet. If you go around it in 90 minutes, it can’t be very big. You can run for 90 minutes, you know. So the world is not very large and I think that’s what really tied me back, the sunrises and sunsets.”

So I spent about four hours after work doing that, and I’d come home I’d write record and release something on YouTube. So they saw the work ethic and the main thing I was sacrificing at that point was sleep. And so, they knew when I said I’m going to leave the job full time, that I had a potential record deal on the table and was going to work on music full time, they knew that I wasn’t, you know, just looking for an excuse to quit my job and do nothing.”

Then the “Pop Life” panel, music industry insiders Farley Flex, Nathan Stein and Laurie Lee Boutet, talk about finding the perfect fit between business and art.
“I think our mom would say that we always were performers,” said Sara. “Once we got going and doing our bits, we could always draw attention to ourselves. It was mostly storytelling. Our grandparents were great storytellers I think we probably adopted their style of banter. But I do think that when we were able to actually make music and do something original, there was this sense that it was what we were born to do. I know that sounds so cheesy but like I think my mom would say, ‘You have always had this natural thing. When you were around people you performed for them.’ So when music came it sort of became a tool, a way to corral that, I think.”

It wasn’t really until I came back that I realized how important I am,” Shania says with a laugh.
