BravoFACT partnered with The Calgary International Film Festival on $50,000 Pitch!

Five Alberta producer/director teams pitched their short narrative film projects in front of Richard Crouse and a jury of industry experts and a live audience for a chance to win $50,000 in BravoFACT funding at the Calgary International Film Festival.

The winners, Michael Peterson and Julian Black Antelope, will screen their film Consume at the Calgary International Film Festival in 2017.

Bell Media’s BravoFACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) and The Calgary International Film Festival announced today they have partnered for the inaugural Calgary International Film Festival BravoFACT Pitch Contest.

Taking place Saturday, Oct. 1 during the closing weekend of CIFF 2016 (September 21 to October 2), five filmmaking teams from Alberta will be given the opportunity to pitch their short film in front of a live audience and a jury of industry experts. The winner will be awarded with a $50,000 prize, provided by BravoFACT, to fund their winning project, two festival passes for CIFF 2017, and the chance to screen their short film at the 2017 festival. The winning team will be announced at the CIFF Awards Brunch on Sunday, Oct. 2.

“BravoFACT strives to support a strong and diverse Canadian film industry, and our partnership with CIFF allows us to continue to expand our reach,” said Tracey Pearce, Senior Vice-President, Specialty and Pay, Bell Media. “We look forward to working with CIFF and shining a spotlight on Calgary’s young filmmaking talent.”

Beginning today, eligible applicants are encouraged to visit https://www.calgaryfilm.com/ciff-bravofact-2016-pitch-competition to apply. Applicants to the CIFF BravoFACT pitch contest are also welcome to submit their applications to BravoFACT for their December 2 winter deadline, but the pitch contest winner is not eligible for double funding. The five teams selected to pitch their short at the Calgary International Film Festival BravoFACT Pitch Contest will be notified by Friday, Sept. 18. The deadline to submit is Friday, Aug.26.
