“We often don’t speak of a person’s legacy until they’re gone… but I wanted to tell a story about someone who’s still here, who didn’t set out to be a mentor but influenced me greatly.

My job interview with Frances Wood of Southern Accent restaurant was the fastest one I’ve ever had. It was under a minute and ended with her saying, “Just don’t embarrass me.” I assumed that meant I had the job so I came back the next day, and most days after that for the next eight years and I don’t think I embarrassed Frances very often during the time I worked there, but I’ll do it now…”
